Brazil
Jews can trace their Brazilian lineage back to the Age of Exploration, when conversos (Jews who converted to Christianity to escape the Spanish/Portuguese Inquisition) came to Brazil to start a new life. Today’s Brazilian Jewish population totals about 150,000. Most Jews live in Sao Paulo, and there are smaller populations in Rio De Janeiro and other smaller cities throughout the country.
