Rabbi Azancot graduated the SSC in 1987, and is currently the head rabbi at Congregation Beth Torah, in Brooklyn, NY, where he leads a congregation of well over 1200 families.
Prior to his appointment of head rabbi in Brooklyn, he served as rabbi of congregations in Barcelona, Spain, and Bogota, Columbia, where he was instrumental in establishing firm Jewish connections with many families, and escalating the level of observance for many Jews. In Bogota, for example, he worked together with the Chabad rabbi and was the visionary behind the establishment of a Kollel, kosher kitchens in all the local hotels, and creating a strong Jewish educational experience for youth.
After the SAM flight 501 plane crash on May 20, 1993, Rabbi Azancot was instrumental in raising money to organize flights to the mountain, used helicopters and ropes to collect all 132 bodies before separating them by faith, so that all 35 Jews on board the plane could have a proper Jewish burial.
